but no stranger had to spend the night in the street, for my door was always open to the traveler—

No stranger ever had to spend the night in the street. My door was always open to travelers.

( the sojourner has not lodged in the street; I have opened my doors to the traveler),

I have never turned away a stranger but have opened my doors to everyone.

The stranger has not spent the night outside, For I have opened my doors to the traveler.

( But no sojourner had to lodge in the street, For I have opened my doors to the traveler);

( The sojourner hath not lodged in the street; But I have opened my doors to the traveller);

( the foreigner has not camped in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);

and said,“ My lords, turn aside to your servant’s house, wash your feet, and spend the night. Then you can get up early and go on your way.”“ No,” they said.“ We would rather spend the night in the square.”But he urged them so strongly that they followed him and went into his house. He prepared a feast and baked unleavened bread for them, and they ate.

“ Welcome!” said the old man.“ I’ll take care of everything you need. Only don’t spend the night in the square.”So he brought him to his house and fed the donkeys. Then they washed their feet and ate and drank.

Don’t neglect to show hospitality, for by doing this some have welcomed angels as guests without knowing it.

Share with the saints in their needs; pursue hospitality.

Be hospitable to one another without complaining.

“‘ For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took me in;

if I have eaten my few crumbs alone without letting the fatherless eat any of it—for from my youth, I raised him as his father, and since the day I was born I guided the widow—

They stopped to go in and spend the night in Gibeah. The Levite went in and sat down in the city square, but no one took them into their home to spend the night.

and is well known for good works— that is, if she has brought up children, shown hospitality, washed the saints’ feet, helped the afflicted, and devoted herself to every good work.

Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, to bring the poor and homeless into your house, to clothe the naked when you see him, and not to ignore your own flesh and blood?
