For that would be a lustful crime; Moreover, it would be wrongdoing punishable by judges.

緣此為大罪、為有司所當罰之惡、

For that would have been wicked, a sin to be judged.

Wanting another woman would have been an evil thing. It would have been a sin that should be judged.

For that would be a heinous crime; that would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges;

For lust is a shameful sin, a crime that should be punished.

For that would be a disgrace; it would be an iniquity deserving punishment.

For that would be wickedness; Yes, it would be iniquity deserving of judgment.

For that were a heinous crime; Yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges:

For that would be a disgrace; it would be a crime deserving punishment.

For this[ is] an heinous crime; yea, it[ is] an iniquity[ to be punished by] the judges.

For I would have committed a shameful act, an iniquity to be judged.

‘ If there is a man who commits adultery with another man’s wife, one who commits adultery with his friend’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress must be put to death.

“ If a man is found sleeping with a married woman, then both of them shall die, the man who slept with the woman, and the woman; so you shall eliminate the evil from Israel.“ If there is a girl who is a virgin betrothed to a man, and another man finds her in the city and sleeps with her,then you shall bring them both out to the gate of that city and you shall stone them to death: the girl, because she did not cry out for help though she was in the city, and the man, because he has violated his neighbor’s wife. So you shall eliminate the evil from among you.

That too would have been a guilty deed calling for judgment, For I would have denied God above.

Now it was about three months later that Judah was informed,“ Your daughter in law Tamar has prostituted herself, and behold, she is also pregnant by prostitution.” Then Judah said,“ Bring her out and have her burned!”

And Abimelech said,“ What is this that you have done to us? One of the people might easily have slept with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us.”

So I will judge you as women who commit adultery or shed blood are judged; and I will bring on you the blood of wrath and jealousy.

Then Abimelech called Abraham and said to him,“ What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done to me things that ought not to be done.”

“ You shall not commit adultery.

So is the one who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; Whoever touches her will not go unpunished.People do not despise a thief if he steals To satisfy himself when he is hungry;But when he is found, he must repay seven times as much; He must give up all the property of his house.One who commits adultery with a woman is lacking sense; He who would destroy himself commits it.He will find wounds and disgrace, And his shame will not be removed.

There is no one greater in this house than I, and he has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do this great evil, and sin against God?”
