For this[ is] an heinous crime; yea, it[ is] an iniquity[ to be punished by] the judges.

蓋此為重罪、士師當罰之惡、

此乃澆漓之俗、士師所必罰、

緣此為大罪、為有司所當罰之惡、

For that would have been wicked, a sin to be judged.

Wanting another woman would have been an evil thing. It would have been a sin that should be judged.

For that would be a heinous crime; that would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges;

For lust is a shameful sin, a crime that should be punished.

For that would be a disgrace; it would be an iniquity deserving punishment.

For that would be a lustful crime; Moreover, it would be wrongdoing punishable by judges.

For that would be wickedness; Yes, it would be iniquity deserving of judgment.

For that were a heinous crime; Yea, it were an iniquity to be punished by the judges:

For that would be a disgrace; it would be a crime deserving punishment.

For I would have committed a shameful act, an iniquity to be judged.

For that would be a heinous crime. Yes, it would be an iniquity to be punished by the judges;

And the man that committeth adultery with[ another] man’s wife,[ even he] that committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die,[ both] the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.If a damsel[ that is] a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her;Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not,[ being] in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour’s wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

This also[ were] an iniquity[ to be punished by] the judge: for I should have denied the God[ that is] above.

And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she[ is] with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

And Abimelech said, What[ is] this thou hast done unto us? one of the people might lightly have lien with thy wife, and thou shouldest have brought guiltiness upon us.

And I will judge thee, as women that break wedlock and shed blood are judged; and I will give thee blood in fury and jealousy.

Then Abimelech called Abraham, and said unto him, What hast thou done unto us? and what have I offended thee, that thou hast brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? thou hast done deeds unto me that ought not to be done.

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.[ Men] do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;But[ if] he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.[ But] whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he[ that] doeth it destroyeth his own soul.A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

[ There is] none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou[ art] his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
