不然、我就早已躺臥而靜寂，早已長眠而安息，

非然者、則已宴然而臥、安然而寢、

浸假當時無生、我今可宴然安寢、

若非如此、則久已偃臥安逸、長眠寧靜、

For now I would be lying down in peace; I would be asleep and at rest

If all of that hadn’t happened, I would be lying down in peace. I’d be asleep and at rest in the grave.

For then I would have lain down and been quiet; I would have slept; then I would have been at rest,

Had I died at birth, I would now be at peace. I would be asleep and at rest.

If a man fathers a hundred children, and lives many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul is not filled with good, and moreover he has no burial; I say, that a stillborn child is better than he:for it comes in vanity, and departs in darkness, and its name is covered with darkness.Moreover it has not seen the sun nor known it. This has rest rather than the other.

The eye of him who sees me will see me no more. Your eyes will be on me, but I will not be.As the cloud is consumed and vanishes away, so he who goes down to Sheol will come up no more.He will return no more to his house, neither will his place know him any more.

They spend their days in prosperity. In an instant they go down to Sheol.

Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work, nor plan, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, where you are going.
