非然者、則已宴然而臥、安然而寢、

浸假當時無生、我今可宴然安寢、

若非如此、則久已偃臥安逸、長眠寧靜、

For now I would be lying down in peace; I would be asleep and at rest

If all of that hadn’t happened, I would be lying down in peace. I’d be asleep and at rest in the grave.

For then I would have lain down and been quiet; I would have slept; then I would have been at rest,

Had I died at birth, I would now be at peace. I would be asleep and at rest.

Now I would certainly be lying down in peace; I would be asleep. Then I would be at rest

If I look for Sheol as my house; If I have spread my couch in the darkness;

One dieth in his full strength, Being wholly at ease and quiet:

If a man beget a hundred children, and live many years, so that the days of his years are many, but his soul be not filled with good, and moreover he have no burial; I say, that an untimely birth is better than he:for it cometh in vanity, and departeth in darkness, and the name thereof is covered with darkness;moreover it hath not seen the sun nor known it; this hath rest rather than the other:

The eye of him that seeth me shall behold me no more; Thine eyes shall be upon me, but I shall not be.As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away, So he that goeth down to Sheol shall come up no more.He shall return no more to his house, Neither shall his place know him any more.

They spend their days in prosperity, And in a moment they go down to Sheol.

Whom I, even I, shall see, on my side, And mine eyes shall behold, and not as a stranger. My heart is consumed within me.

But man dieth, and is laid low: Yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?As the waters fail from the sea, And the river wasteth and drieth up;So man lieth down and riseth not: Till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, Nor be roused out of their sleep.

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in Sheol, whither thou goest.

The land dark as midnight, The land of the shadow of death, without any order, And where the light is as midnight.

And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away mine iniquity? For now shall I lie down in the dust; And thou wilt seek me diligently, but I shall not be.
