He said to human beings,“ Have respect for the Lord. That will prove you are wise. Avoid evil. That will show you have understanding.”

And he said to the human race,“ The fear of the Lord— that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding.”

And he said to man,‘ Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.’”

And this is what he says to all humanity:‘ The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.’”

He said to mankind,“ The fear of the Lord— that is wisdom. And to turn from evil is understanding.”

And to mankind He said,‘ Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; And to turn away from evil is understanding.’ ”

And to man He said,‘ Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.’”

If you really want to become wise, you must begin by having respect for the Lord. All those who follow his rules have good understanding. People should praise him forever.

Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Have respect for the Lord and avoid evil.

If you really want to gain knowledge, you must begin by having respect for the Lord. But foolish people hate wisdom and instruction.

If you want to become wise, you must begin by respecting the Lord. To know the Holy One is to gain understanding.

Be careful to keep them. That will show the nations how wise and understanding you are. They will hear about all these rules. They’ll say,“ That great nation certainly has wise and understanding people.”

Everything has now been heard. And here’s the final thing I want to say. Have respect for God and obey his commandments. This is what he expects of all human beings.

Is anyone among you wise and understanding? That person should show it by living a good life. A wise person isn’t proud when they do good deeds.But suppose your hearts are jealous and bitter. Suppose you are concerned only about getting ahead. Then don’t brag about it. And don’t say no to the truth.Wisdom like this doesn’t come down from heaven. It belongs to the earth. It doesn’t come from the Holy Spirit. It comes from the devil.Are you jealous? Are you concerned only about getting ahead? Then your life will be a mess. You will be doing all kinds of evil things.But the wisdom that comes from heaven is pure. That’s the most important thing about it. And that’s not all. It also loves peace. It thinks about others. It obeys. It is full of mercy and good fruit. It is fair. It doesn’t pretend to be what it is not.

Turn away from evil, and do good. Look for peace, and go after it.

The path of honest people takes them away from evil. Those who guard their ways guard their lives.

The Lord our God keeps certain things hidden. But he makes other things known to us and to our children forever. He does it so we can obey all the words of this law.

“ People, I call out to you. I raise my voice to all human beings.You who are childish, get some good sense. You who are foolish, set your hearts on getting it.

So wash and make yourselves clean. Get your evil actions out of my sight! Stop doing what is wrong!

It happened before the Lord made the world and its fields. It was before he made the dust of the earth.I was there when he set the heavens in place. When he marked out the place where the sky meets the sea, I was there.That was when he put the clouds above. It was when he fixed the ocean springs in place.It was when he set limits for the sea so that the waters had to obey his command. When the Lord marked out the foundations of the earth, I was there.I was constantly at his side. I was filled with delight day after day. I was always happy to be with him.His whole world filled me with joy. I took delight in all human beings.“ My children, listen to me. Blessed are those who keep my ways.

They must turn away from evil and do good. They must look for peace and go after it.

The teaching of wise people is like a fountain that gives life. It turns those who listen to it away from the jaws of death.

But God’s solid foundation stands firm. Here is the message written on it.“ The Lord knows who his own people are.”( Numbers 16:5) Also,“ All who say they believe in the Lord must turn away from evil.”
