He may let them rest in a feeling of security, but his eyes are on their ways.

God might let them rest and feel secure. But his eyes see how they live.

Righteous are you, O Lord, when I complain to you; yet I would plead my case before you. Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all who are treacherous thrive?You plant them, and they take root; they grow and produce fruit; you are near in their mouth and far from their heart.But you, O Lord, know me; you see me, and test my heart toward you. Pull them out like sheep for the slaughter, and set them apart for the day of slaughter.

If your enemy is hungry, give him bread to eat, and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink,for you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you.The north wind brings forth rain, and a backbiting tongue, angry looks.

But if that servant says to himself,‘ My master is delayed in coming,’ and begins to beat the male and female servants, and to eat and drink and get drunk,

The tents of robbers are at peace, and those who provoke God are secure, who bring their god in their hand.

Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart,“ You will not call to account”?But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless.

If you see in a province the oppression of the poor and the violation of justice and righteousness, do not be amazed at the matter, for the high official is watched by a higher, and there are yet higher ones over them.

You who are of purer eyes than to see evil and cannot look at wrong, why do you idly look at traitors and remain silent when the wicked swallows up the man more righteous than he?

for he says:“ Are not my commanders all kings?Is not Calno like Carchemish? Is not Hamath like Arpad? Is not Samaria like Damascus?As my hand has reached to the kingdoms of the idols, whose carved images were greater than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,shall I not do to Jerusalem and her idols as I have done to Samaria and her images?”

And he told them a parable, saying,“ The land of a rich man produced plentifully,and he thought to himself,‘ What shall I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’And he said,‘ I will do this: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods.And I will say to my soul,“ Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink, be merry.”’But God said to him,‘ Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’

While people are saying,“ There is peace and security,” then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

“ If they dig into Sheol, from there shall my hand take them; if they climb up to heaven, from there I will bring them down.

“ Come,” they say,“ let me get wine; let us fill ourselves with strong drink; and tomorrow will be like this day, great beyond measure.”
