You must have refused water for the thirsty and food for the hungry.

You gave no water to the weary and you withheld food from the hungry,

You didn’t give any water to people who were tired. You held food back from those who were hungry.

You have given no water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.

You gave no water to the thirsty and withheld food from the famished,

You have given the weary no water to drink, And you have withheld bread from the hungry.

You have not given the weary water to drink, And you have withheld bread from the hungry.

Have I been stingy with my food and refused to share it with orphans?

For I was hungry, and you didn’t feed me. I was thirsty, and you didn’t give me a drink.

Share your food with the hungry, and give shelter to the homeless. Give clothes to those who need them, and do not hide from relatives who need your help.

If you refuse to make the loan and the needy person cries out to the Lord, you will be considered guilty of sin.Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.There will always be some in the land who are poor. That is why I am commanding you to share freely with the poor and with other Israelites in need.

Instead,“ If your enemies are hungry, feed them. If they are thirsty, give them something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals of shame on their heads.”

They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.

Feed the hungry, and help those in trouble. Then your light will shine out from the darkness, and the darkness around you will be as bright as noon.
