God layeth up his iniquity for his children: he rewardeth him, and he shall know[ it].

It is said,‘ God stores up the punishment of the wicked for their children.’ Let him repay the wicked, so that they themselves will experience it!

People say,‘ God stores up the punishment of evil people for their children.’ But let God punish the evil people themselves. Then they’ll learn a lesson from it.

You say,‘ God stores up their iniquity for their children.’ Let him pay it out to them, that they may know it.

“‘ Well,’ you say,‘ at least God will punish their children!’ But I say he should punish the ones who sin, so that they understand his judgment.

God reserves a person’s punishment for his children. Let God repay the person himself, so that he may know it.

You say,‘ God saves up a person’s wrongdoing for his sons.’ Let God repay him so that he may know it.

They say,‘ God lays up one’s iniquity for his children’; Let Him recompense him, that he may know it.

Ye say, God layeth up his iniquity for his children. Let him recompense it unto himself, that he may know it:

Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God[ am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth[ generation] of them that hate me;

In those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children’s teeth are set on edge.

For he hath made him[ to be] sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

Now, lo,[ if] he beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins which he hath done, and considereth, and doeth not such like,

Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek[ their bread] also out of their desolate places.Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.Let his posterity be cut off;[ and] in the generation following let their name be blotted out.Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the LORD; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.Let them be before the LORD continually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.Let it be unto him as the garment[ which] covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.[ Let] this[ be] the reward of mine adversaries from the LORD, and of them that speak evil against my soul.But do thou for me, O GOD the Lord, for thy name’s sake: because thy mercy[ is] good, deliver thou me.For I[ am] poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.I became also a reproach unto them:[ when] they looked upon me they shaked their heads.Help me, O LORD my God: O save me according to thy mercy:That they may know that this[ is] thy hand;[ that] thou, LORD, hast done it.Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.I will greatly praise the LORD with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save[ him] from those that condemn his soul.

Reward her even as she rewarded you, and double unto her double according to her works: in the cup which she hath filled fill to her double.

Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the[ gold] of Ophir as the stones of the brooks.

If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee[ shall be] his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

[ Is] not this laid up in store with me,[ and] sealed up among my treasures?

And I[ am] this day weak, though anointed king; and these men the sons of Zeruiah[ be] too hard for me: the LORD shall reward the doer of evil according to his wickedness.

If I whet my glittering sword, and mine hand take hold on judgment; I will render vengeance to mine enemies, and will reward them that hate me.

Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.

For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.

What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?

Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.But he[ was] wounded for our transgressions,[ he was] bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace[ was] upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Yet say ye, Why? doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right,[ and] hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.

Alexander the coppersmith did me much evil: the Lord reward him according to his works:

Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.[ Ye] serpents,[ ye] generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and[ some] of them ye shall kill and crucify; and[ some] of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute[ them] from city to city:That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.
