What they worked for they must give back before they can eat it. They won’t enjoy what they have earned.

But Zacchaeus stood up. He said,“ Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of what I own to those who are poor. And if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay it back. I will pay back four times the amount I took.”

Sinners might store up silver like dust and clothes like piles of clay.But people who do what is right will wear those clothes. People who haven’t done anything wrong will divide up that silver.

May their children be driven from their destroyed homes. May they wander around like beggars.

The Lord had caused the Egyptians to treat the Israelites in a kind way. So the Egyptians gave them what they asked for. The Israelites took many expensive things that belonged to the Egyptians.

But suppose it happens after the sun has come up. Then you are guilty of murder.“ Anyone who steals must pay for whatever they steal. But suppose the thief does not have anything. Then the thief must be sold to pay for what was stolen.

Their children aren’t safe at all. They lose their case in court. No one speaks up for them.

“ Suppose someone steals an ox or a sheep. And suppose that person kills it or sells it. Then the thief must pay back five oxen for the ox. Or the thief must pay back four sheep for the sheep.

But when he is caught, he must pay seven times as much as he stole. It may even cost him everything he has.

A ruler who treats poor people badly is like a pounding rain that leaves no crops.

The man must pay back four times as much as that lamb was worth. How could he do such a thing? And he wasn’t even sorry he had done it.”

Do not refuse to let them go. Do not keep holding them back.
