People of the west are appalled at his fate; those of the east are seized with horror.

What has happened to them shocks the people in the west. It terrifies the people in the east.

‘ Now to you, O profane, wicked prince of Israel, whose day has come, whose iniquity shall end,

and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.”

“ He has removed my brothers far from me, And my acquaintances are completely estranged from me.My relatives have failed, And my close friends have forgotten me.Those who dwell in my house, and my maidservants, Count me as a stranger; I am an alien in their sight.I call my servant, but he gives no answer; I beg him with my mouth.My breath is offensive to my wife, And I am repulsive to the children of my own body.Even young children despise me; I arise, and they speak against me.All my close friends abhor me, And those whom I love have turned against me.

Remember, O Lord, against the sons of Edom The day of Jerusalem, Who said,“ Raze it, raze it, To its very foundation!”

In the day that you stood on the other side— In the day that strangers carried captive his forces, When foreigners entered his gates And cast lots for Jerusalem— Even you were as one of them.“ But you should not have gazed on the day of your brother In the day of his captivity; Nor should you have rejoiced over the children of Judah In the day of their destruction; Nor should you have spoken proudly In the day of distress.You should not have entered the gate of My people In the day of their calamity. Indeed, you should not have gazed on their affliction In the day of their calamity, Nor laid hands on their substance In the day of their calamity.You should not have stood at the crossroads To cut off those among them who escaped; Nor should you have delivered up those among them who remained In the day of distress.“ For the day of the Lord upon all the nations is near; As you have done, it shall be done to you; Your reprisal shall return upon your own head.

saying,“ If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will hiss, and say,‘ Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?’

‘ The whole land is brimstone, salt, and burning; it is not sown, nor does it bear, nor does any grass grow there, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, which the Lord overthrew in His anger and His wrath.’All nations would say,‘ Why has the Lord done so to this land? What does the heat of this great anger mean?’

And when they raised their eyes from afar, and did not recognize him, they lifted their voices and wept; and each one tore his robe and sprinkled dust on his head toward heaven.So they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great.

To make their land desolate and a perpetual hissing; Everyone who passes by it will be astonished And shake his head.
