People of the west are appalled at his fate; people of the east are seized with horror, saying,

父老駭異、子弟震驚。

因其所遇、後者驚惶、前人恐懼、

People of the west are appalled at his fate; those of the east are seized with horror.

What has happened to them shocks the people in the west. It terrifies the people in the east.

They of the west are appalled at his day, and horror seizes them of the east.

People in the west are appalled at their fate; people in the east are horrified.

Those in the west are appalled at his fate, while those in the east tremble in horror.

Those in the west are appalled at his fate, And those in the east are seized with horror.

Those in the west are astonished at his day, As those in the east are frightened.

They that come after shall be astonished at his day, As they that went before were affrighted.

The Lord laughs in disgust at them, for he knows that their day is coming.

Kill all her soldiers! Let them be slaughtered! They are doomed, for their day of reckoning has come, the time for them to be punished.”

“‘ As for you, profane and wicked prince of Israel, whose day has come, the time of final punishment,

They will demolish you– you and your children within your walls– and they will not leave within you one stone on top of another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.”

“ He has put my relatives far from me; my acquaintances only turn away from me.My kinsmen have failed me; my friends have forgotten me.My guests and my servant girls consider me a stranger; I am a foreigner in their eyes.I summon my servant, but he does not respond, even though I implore him with my own mouth.My breath is repulsive to my wife; I am loathsome to my brothers.Even youngsters have scorned me; when I get up, they scoff at me.All my closest friends detest me; and those whom I love have turned against me.

Remember, O LORD, what the Edomites did on the day Jerusalem fell. They said,“ Tear it down, tear it down, right to its very foundation!”

You stood aloof while strangers took his army captive, and foreigners advanced to his gates. When they cast lots over Jerusalem, you behaved as though you were in league with them.You should not have gloated when your relatives suffered calamity. You should not have rejoiced over the people of Judah when they were destroyed. You should not have boasted when they suffered adversity.You should not have entered the city of my people when they experienced distress. You should not have joined in gloating over their misfortune when they suffered distress. You should not have looted their wealth when they endured distress.You should not have stood at the fork in the road to slaughter those trying to escape. You should not have captured their refugees when they suffered adversity.“ For the day of the LORD is approaching for all the nations! Just as you have done, so it will be done to you. You will get exactly what your deeds deserve.

saying,“ If you had only known on this day, even you, the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes.

This temple will become a heap of ruins; everyone who passes by it will be shocked and will hiss out their scorn, saying,‘ Why did the LORD do this to this land and this temple?’

The whole land will be covered with brimstone, salt, and burning debris; it will not be planted nor will it sprout or produce grass. It will resemble the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which the LORD destroyed in his intense anger.Then all the nations will ask,“ Why has the LORD done all this to this land? What is this fierce, heated display of anger all about?”

But when they gazed intently from a distance but did not recognize him, they began to weep loudly. Each of them tore his robes, and they threw dust into the air over their heads.Then they sat down with him on the ground for seven days and seven nights, yet no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his pain was very great.

So their land will become an object of horror. People will forever hiss out their scorn over it. All who pass that way will be filled with horror and will shake their heads in derision.
