Surely, God, you have worn me out; you have devastated my entire household.

God has worn me out completely. He has destroyed my whole family.

Surely now God has worn me out; he has made desolate all my company.

“ O God, you have ground me down and devastated my family.

Surely he has now exhausted me. You have devastated my entire family.

But now He has exhausted me; You have laid waste all my group of loved ones.

But now He has worn me out; You have made desolate all my company.

But now, God, you have surely worn me out. You have made all my company desolate.

So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.

And the Sabeans fell[ upon them], and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.While he[ was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.While he[ was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.While he[ was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters[ were] eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son[ in whom] he delighteth.

Therefore also will I make[ thee] sick in smiting thee, in making[ thee] desolate because of thy sins.

When the Almighty[ was] yet with me,[ when] my children[ were] about me;When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;When I went out to the gate through the city,[ when] I prepared my seat in the street!The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose,[ and] stood up.The princes refrained talking, and laid[ their] hand on their mouth.The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.When the ear heard[ me], then it blessed me; and when the eye saw[ me], it gave witness to me:Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and[ him that had] none to help him.The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment[ was] as a robe and a diadem.I was eyes to the blind, and feet[ was] I to the lame.I[ was] a father to the poor: and the cause[ which] I knew not I searched out.And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply[ my] days as the sand.My root[ was] spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.My glory[ was] fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.Unto me[ men] gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide[ as] for the latter rain.[ If] I laughed on them, they believed[ it] not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one[ that] comforteth the mourners.

There the wicked cease[ from] troubling; and there the weary be at rest.

I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.

The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to[ him that is] weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

I loathe[ it]; I would not live alway: let me alone; for my days[ are] vanity.

My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul.
