and he contends with God on behalf of man as a man pleads for his friend.

愿人得与神辩白，如同人与朋友辩白一样；

愿人可与上帝理论，如同人与朋友一样；

愿人可与神理论，如同人与朋友一样；

但愿人与上帝之间有仲裁者，如同人与人之间。

但愿人可以为人与神分辩，正如世人为朋友辩白一样。

願人得與神辯白，如同人與朋友辯白一樣；

願人可與上帝理論，如同人與朋友一樣；

願人可與神理論，如同人與朋友一樣；

但願人與上帝之間有仲裁者，如同人與人之間。

願上帝為人辨冤於其前、並在人之鄰里中、

願得在上帝前、明辨其冤、如與同儕言者然、

願世人得與天主辯論、如人與人辯論然、

that he would argue the case of a man with God, as a son of man does with his neighbor.

I need someone to mediate between God and me, as a person mediates between friends.

I wish that someone might argue for a man with God just as anyone would for a friend.

That one might plead for a man with God As a son of man with his neighbor!

Oh, that one might plead for a man with God, As a man pleads for his neighbor!

That he would maintain the right of a man with God, And of a son of man with his neighbor!

I wish that someone might arbitrate between a man and God just as a man pleads for his friend.

O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man[ pleadeth] for his neighbour!

One who argues with his creator is in grave danger, one who is like a mere shard among the other shards on the ground! The clay should not say to the potter,“ What in the world are you doing? Your work lacks skill!”

who would take his rod away from me so that his terror would not make me afraid.Then would I speak and not fear him, but it is not so with me.

But I wish to speak to the Almighty, and I desire to argue my case with God.

Then the LORD answered Job:“ Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let the person who accuses God give him an answer!”Then Job answered the LORD:“ Indeed, I am completely unworthy– how could I reply to you? “ If only I had someone to hear me! Here is my signature– let the Almighty answer me! If only I had an indictment that my accuser had written.

But who indeed are you– a mere human being– to talk back to God? Does what is molded say to the molder,“ Why have you made me like this?”

O that I knew where I might find him, that I could come to his place of residence!I would lay out my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.I would know with what words he would answer me, and understand what he would say to me.Would he contend with me with great power? No, he would only pay attention to me.There an upright person could present his case before him, and I would be delivered forever from my judge.

Then call, and I will answer, or I will speak, and you respond to me.

Whatever has happened was foreordained, and what happens to a person was also foreknown. It is useless for him to argue with God about his fate because God is more powerful than he is.
