My face is red with weeping, dark shadows ring my eyes;

My face is red from crying. I have dark circles under my eyes.

My face is red with weeping, and on my eyelids is deep darkness,

My eyes are red with weeping; dark shadows circle my eyes.

My face is flushed from weeping, And deep darkness is on my eyelids,

My face is flushed from weeping, And on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

My face is red with weeping, And on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids[ is] the shadow of death;

my face is reddened because of weeping, and on my eyelids there is a deep darkness,

My face is red with weeping. Deep darkness is on my eyelids.

Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the belly of the fish:I called to the LORD in my distress, and he answered me. I cried out for help from deep inside Sheol; you heard my voice.When you threw me into the depths, into the heart of the seas, the current overcame me. All your breakers and your billows swept over me.And I said,“ I have been banished from your sight, yet I will look once more toward your holy temple.”The water engulfed me up to the neck; the watery depths overcame me; seaweed was wrapped around my head.I sank to the foundations of the mountains, the earth’s gates shut behind me forever! Then you raised my life from the Pit, LORD my God!As my life was fading away, I remembered the LORD, and my prayer came to you, to your holy temple.Those who cherish worthless idols abandon their faithful love,but as for me, I will sacrifice to you with a voice of thanksgiving. I will fulfill what I have vowed. Salvation belongs to the LORD.Then the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

When I kept silent, my bones became brittle from my groaning all day long.

I eat ashes like bread and mingle my drinks with tears

For my days vanish like smoke, and my bones burn like a furnace.My heart is suffering, withered like grass; I even forget to eat my food.Because of the sound of my groaning, my flesh sticks to my bones.

Be gracious to me, LORD, because I am in distress; my eyes are worn out from frustration— my whole being as well.

Just as many were appalled at you— his appearance was so disfigured that he did not look like a man, and his form did not resemble a human being—

My eyes have grown dim from grief, and my whole body has become but a shadow.

I am weary from my crying; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.

The ropes of death were wrapped around me, and the torments of Sheol overcame me; I encountered trouble and sorrow.

I weep because of these things; my eyes flow with tears. For there is no one nearby to comfort me, no one to keep me alive. My children are desolate because the enemy has prevailed.

He said to them,“ I am deeply grieved to the point of death. Remain here and stay awake.”

I am weary from my groaning; with my tears I dampen my bed and drench my couch every night.My eyes are swollen from grief; they grow old because of all my enemies.
