For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.

惡人自恃其勇、狂悖成性、侮慢全能之上帝。

因其舉手抗拒天主、妄恃己力、侮慢全能之主、

because he shakes his fist at God and vaunts himself against the Almighty,

They shake their fists at God. They brag about themselves and oppose the Mighty One.

Because he has stretched out his hand against God and defies the Almighty,

For they shake their fists at God, defying the Almighty.

For he has stretched out his hand against God and has arrogantly opposed the Almighty.

Because he has reached out with his hand against God, And is arrogant toward the Almighty.

For he stretches out his hand against God, And acts defiantly against the Almighty,

Because he hath stretched out his hand against God, And behaveth himself proudly against the Almighty;

[ He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened[ himself] against him, and hath prospered?

Wherefore then do ye harden your hearts, as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts? when he had wrought wonderfully among them, did they not let the people go, and they departed?

Lo,[ this is] the man[ that] made not God his strength; but trusted in the abundance of his riches,[ and] strengthened himself in his wickedness.

They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

But hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before thee, and thou, and thy lords, thy wives, and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know: and the God in whose hand thy breath[ is], and whose[ are] all thy ways, hast thou not glorified:

Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken[ so much] against thee?

And Pharaoh said, Who[ is] the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days’ journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

And they say, How doth God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God[ is] with us.

Fury[ is] not in me: who would set the briers[ and] thorns against me in battle? I would go through them, I would burn them together.

Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?Deck thyself now[ with] majesty and excellency; and array thyself with glory and beauty.Cast abroad the rage of thy wrath: and behold every one[ that is] proud, and abase him.

Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth[ his] hands to vex certain of the church.

As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go?

And the Philistines were afraid, for they said, God is come into the camp. And they said, Woe unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretofore.Woe unto us! who shall deliver us out of the hand of these mighty Gods? these[ are] the Gods that smote the Egyptians with all the plagues in the wilderness.Be strong, and quit yourselves like men, O ye Philistines, that ye be not servants unto the Hebrews, as they have been to you: quit yourselves like men, and fight.

Who hath wrought and done[ it], calling the generations from the beginning? I the LORD, the first, and with the last; I[ am] he.The isles saw[ it], and feared; the ends of the earth were afraid, drew near, and came.They helped every one his neighbour; and[ every one] said to his brother, Be of good courage.So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith,[ and] he that smootheth[ with] the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, It[ is] ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with nails,[ that] it should not be moved.

And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary unto me;

And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest:[ it is] hard for thee to kick against the pricks.

Wherefore it shall come to pass,[ that] when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done[ it], and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant[ man]:And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs[ that are] left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.
