智者豈可以虛識為對、以東風充懷乎、

寧有吸凄風、吐支辭、而得為哲人乎。

智慧者豈以虛辭而答、豈使東風盈其胸懷、或作豈以虛辭而答乎使東風盈於懷豈得稱智慧人乎

Do you intend to criticize mere words, and treat the words of a despairing man as wind?

Ephraim continually feeds on the wind; he chases the east wind all day; he multiplies lies and violence. They make treaties with Assyria, and send olive oil as tribute to Egypt.

“ How long will you speak these things, seeing that the words of your mouth are like a great wind?

“ Should not this abundance of words be answered, or should this talkative man be vindicated?Will your idle talk reduce people to silence, and will no one rebuke you when you mock?

What you know, I know also; I am not inferior to you!

Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct he should show his works done in the gentleness that wisdom brings.
