In the same way, people lie down and never get up. People won’t wake or rise from their sleep until the heavens are gone.

Heaven must receive him until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.

For now I would be lying down in peace; I would be asleep and at rest

before I go to the place of no return, to the land of gloom and utter darkness,to the land of deepest night, of utter darkness and disorder, where even the light is like darkness.”

By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

I know you will bring me down to death, to the place appointed for all the living.

But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly livesas you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.But in keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded.

For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope

“ See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath; humans have no advantage over animals. Everything is meaningless.All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return.Who knows if the human spirit rises upward and if the spirit of the animal goes down into the earth?”

For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep.

“ As the new heavens and the new earth that I make will endure before me,” declares the Lord,“ so will your name and descendants endure.

This is why it is said:“ Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

Why do you not pardon my offenses and forgive my sins? For I will soon lie down in the dust; you will search for me, but I will be no more.”

After he had said this, he went on to tell them,“ Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep; but I am going there to wake him up.”His disciples replied,“ Lord, if he sleeps, he will get better.”Jesus had been speaking of his death, but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.

Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.

Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation will last forever, my righteousness will never fail.

But your dead will live, Lord; their bodies will rise— let those who dwell in the dust wake up and shout for joy— your dew is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.

I know that my redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand on the earth.And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God;I myself will see him with my own eyes— I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me!

when people are afraid of heights and of dangers in the streets; when the almond tree blossoms and the grasshopper drags itself along and desire no longer is stirred. Then people go to their eternal home and mourners go about the streets.
