But a man dies and is laid low; he breathes his last and is no more.

但人死亡而消灭；他气绝，竟在何处呢？

但壮士一死就消逝了；人一气绝，他在何处呢？

但人一死，就失去力量；人一咽气，就不知去向。

人死了，就化为乌有；人一气绝就不在了。

但人死亡而消滅；他氣絕，竟在何處呢？

但人一死，就失去力量；人一嚥氣，就不知去向。

人死了，就化為烏有；人一氣絕就不在了。

但人死了就過去；人一氣絕，究竟在哪裏呢？

惟人死而僵、其氣既絕、則安在哉、

人則異是、始則血衰、既而氣絕、歸於無有。

惟人死則滅、人氣絕則安在、

No man is like that. When he dies, he is buried in a grave. He takes his last breath. Then he is gone.

But a man dies and is laid low; man breathes his last, and where is he?

“ But when people die, their strength is gone. They breathe their last, and then where are they?

But a person dies and fades away; he breathes his last— where is he?

But a man dies and lies prostrate. A person passes away, and where is he?

But man dies and is laid away; Indeed he breathes his last And where is he?

But man dieth, and is laid low: Yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

But man dies and is powerless; he expires– and where is he?

But man dies, and is laid low. Yes, man gives up the spirit, and where is he?

so he lies down and does not rise; till the heavens are no more, people will not awake or be roused from their sleep.

Remember, O God, that my life is but a breath; my eyes will never see happiness again.The eye that now sees me will see me no longer; you will look for me, but I will be no more.As a cloud vanishes and is gone, so one who goes down to the grave does not return.He will never come to his house again; his place will know him no more.

“ Why then did you bring me out of the womb? I wish I had died before any eye saw me.

“ Why did I not perish at birth, and die as I came from the womb?

And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God;

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

But the eyes of the wicked will fail, and escape will elude them; their hope will become a dying gasp.”

At that moment she fell down at his feet and died. Then the young men came in and, finding her dead, carried her out and buried her beside her husband.

If the only home I hope for is the grave, if I spread out my bed in the realm of darkness,if I say to corruption,‘ You are my father,’ and to the worm,‘ My mother’ or‘ My sister,’where then is my hope— who can see any hope for me?Will it go down to the gates of death? Will we descend together into the dust?”

When calamity comes, the wicked are brought down, but even in death the righteous seek refuge in God.

“ The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried.In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side.

When Jacob had finished giving instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed, breathed his last and was gathered to his people.
