Oh, how I wish that God would speak, that he would open his lips against you

惟愿神说话；愿他开口攻击你，

但是，惟愿上帝说话，愿他张开嘴唇攻击你。

我願上帝與爾辯論、

惟願天主有言、向爾啟口、

I wish God would speak. I wish he’d answer you.

But oh, that God would speak and open his lips to you,

If only God would speak; if only he would tell you what he thinks!

Then the Lord spoke to Job out of the storm. He said:“ Who is this that obscures my plans with words without knowledge?

After the Lord had said these things to Job, he said to Eliphaz the Temanite,“ I am angry with you and your two friends, because you have not spoken the truth about me, as my servant Job has.

The Lord said to Job:“ Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!”Then Job answered the Lord:“ I am unworthy— how can I reply to you? I put my hand over my mouth.I spoke once, but I have no answer— twice, but I will say no more.”

(“ Oh, that I had someone to hear me! I sign now my defense— let the Almighty answer me; let my accuser put his indictment in writing.

I am the same as you in God’s sight; I too am a piece of clay.No fear of me should alarm you, nor should my hand be heavy on you.“ But you have said in my hearing— I heard the very words—‘ I am pure, I have done no wrong; I am clean and free from sin.Yet God has found fault with me; he considers me his enemy.He fastens my feet in shackles; he keeps close watch on all my paths.’“ But I tell you, in this you are not right, for God is greater than any mortal.Why do you complain to him that he responds to no one’s words?For God does speak— now one way, now another— though no one perceives it.In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds,he may speak in their ears and terrify them with warnings,to turn them from wrongdoing and keep them from pride,to preserve them from the pit, their lives from perishing by the sword.

If only I knew where to find him; if only I could go to his dwelling!I would state my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.I would find out what he would answer me, and consider what he would say to me.Would he vigorously oppose me? No, he would not press charges against me.There the upright can establish their innocence before him, and there I would be delivered forever from my judge.

“ Would you discredit my justice? Would you condemn me to justify yourself?
