惟願天主有言、向爾啟口、

Oh, how I wish that God would speak, that he would open his lips against you

I wish God would speak. I wish he’d answer you.

If only God would speak; if only he would tell you what he thinks!

But if only God would speak and open his lips against you!

But if only God would speak, And open His lips against you,

But oh, that God would speak, And open His lips against you,

But oh that God would speak, And open his lips against thee,

But if only God would speak and declare His case against you,

But oh that God would speak, and open his lips against thee;

Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:“ Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?

After the Lord had spoken these words to Job, the Lord said to Eliphaz the Temanite:“ My anger burns against you and against your two friends, for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.

And the Lord said to Job:“ Shall a faultfinder contend with the Almighty? He who argues with God, let him answer it.”Then Job answered the Lord and said:“ Behold, I am of small account; what shall I answer you? I lay my hand on my mouth.I have spoken once, and I will not answer; twice, but I will proceed no further.”

Oh, that I had one to hear me!( Here is my signature! Let the Almighty answer me!) Oh, that I had the indictment written by my adversary!

Behold, I am toward God as you are; I too was pinched off from a piece of clay.Behold, no fear of me need terrify you; my pressure will not be heavy upon you.“ Surely you have spoken in my ears, and I have heard the sound of your words.You say,‘ I am pure, without transgression; I am clean, and there is no iniquity in me.Behold, he finds occasions against me, he counts me as his enemy,he puts my feet in the stocks and watches all my paths.’“ Behold, in this you are not right. I will answer you, for God is greater than man.Why do you contend against him, saying,‘ He will answer none of man’s words’?For God speaks in one way, and in two, though man does not perceive it.In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on men, while they slumber on their beds,then he opens the ears of men and terrifies them with warnings,that he may turn man aside from his deed and conceal pride from a man;he keeps back his soul from the pit, his life from perishing by the sword.

Oh, that I knew where I might find him, that I might come even to his seat!I would lay my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.I would know what he would answer me and understand what he would say to me.Would he contend with me in the greatness of his power? No; he would pay attention to me.There an upright man could argue with him, and I would be acquitted forever by my judge.

Will you even put me in the wrong? Will you condemn me that you may be in the right?
