While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said,“ Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother’s house,

While he was still speaking, a fourth messenger came. He said,“ Your sons and daughters were at their oldest brother’s house. They were enjoying good food and drinking wine.

While he was yet speaking, there came another and said,“ Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

While he was still speaking, another messenger arrived with this news:“ Your sons and daughters were feasting in their oldest brother’s home.

He was still speaking when another messenger came and reported,“ Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house.

While he was still speaking, another also came and said,“ Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house;

He was still speaking when another messenger came and reported:“ Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house.

While he[ was] yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters[ were] eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house:

While this one was still speaking another messenger arrived and said,“ Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said,“ Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

Now on the day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,

His sons used to go and hold a feast in the house of each one on his day, and they would send word and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

“ But I gave you also cleanness of teeth in all your cities, And lack of bread in all your places; Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.“ Furthermore, I withheld the rain from you While there were still three months until harvest. Then I would send rain on one city, But on another city I would not send rain; One part would be rained on, While the part not rained on would dry up.So the people of two or three cities would stagger to another city to drink water, But would not be satisfied; Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.“ I struck you with scorching wind and mildew; The caterpillar was devouring Your many gardens and vineyards, fig trees and olive trees; Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.“ I sent a plague among you as in Egypt; I killed your young men with the sword, along with your captured horses, And I made the stench of your camp rise up in your nostrils; Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.“ I overthrew you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, And you were like a log snatched from a fire; Yet you have not returned to Me,” declares the Lord.

Then Absalom commanded his servants, saying,“ See now, when Amnon’s heart is cheerful with wine, and I say to you,‘ Strike Amnon,’ then put him to death. Do not fear; have I not commanded you myself? Be courageous and be valiant.”

“ Even today my complaint is rebellion; His hand is heavy despite my groaning.

The afflictions of the righteous are many, But the Lord rescues him from them all.

Though his sons are many, they are destined for the sword; And his descendants will not be satisfied with bread.

As often as it passes through, it will seize you; For morning after morning it will pass through, anytime during the day or night, And it will be sheer terror to understand what it means.”

It is the same for all. There is one fate for the righteous and for the wicked; for the good, for the clean and the unclean; for the person who offers a sacrifice and for the one who does not sacrifice. As the good person is, so is the sinner; the one who swears an oath is just as the one who is afraid to swear an oath.

If your sons sinned against Him, Then He turned them over to the power of their wrongdoing.

One courier runs to meet another, And one messenger to meet another, To tell the king of Babylon That his city has been captured from end to end;

He breaks through me with breach after breach; He runs at me like a warrior.

He has stripped my honor from me And removed the crown from my head.He breaks me down on every side, and I am gone; And He has uprooted my hope like a tree.

“ Oh if only my grief were actually weighed And laid in the balances together with my disaster!For then it would be heavier than the sand of the seas; For that reason my words have been rash.

“ Is it nothing to all you who pass this way? Look and see if there is any pain like my pain Which was inflicted on me, With which the Lord tormented me on the day of His fierce anger.
