Some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and asked Him,“ We aren’t blind too, are we?”

Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked,“ What? Are we blind too?”

Some Pharisees who were standing nearby heard him and asked,“ Are you saying we’re blind?”

Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things and asked him,“ We aren’t blind too, are we?”

Those who were with Him from the Pharisees heard these things and said to Him,“ We are not blind too, are we?”

Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him,“ Are we blind also?”

Those of the Pharisees who were with him heard these things, and said unto him, Are we also blind?

And[ some] of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

Because you say,‘ I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t know that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked,

Then the disciples came up and told Him,“ Do You know that the Pharisees took offense when they heard this statement?”He replied,“ Every plant that My heavenly Father didn’t plant will be uprooted.Leave them alone! They are blind guides. And if the blind guide the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

and if you are convinced that you are a guide for the blind, a light to those in darkness,an instructor of the ignorant, a teacher of the immature, having the full expression of knowledge and truth in the law—you then, who teach another, don’t you teach yourself? You who preach,“ You must not steal”— do you steal?You who say,“ You must not commit adultery”— do you commit adultery? You who detest idols, do you rob their temples?

Then the Pharisees responded to them:“ Are you fooled too?Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him?But this crowd, which doesn’t know the law, is accursed!”Nicodemus— the one who came to Him previously, being one of them— said to them,“ Our law doesn’t judge a man before it hears from him and knows what he’s doing, does it?”“ You aren’t from Galilee too, are you?” they replied.“ Investigate and you will see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”

“ Woe to you, blind guides, who say,‘ Whoever takes an oath by the sanctuary, it means nothing. But whoever takes an oath by the gold of the sanctuary is bound by his oath.’Blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the sanctuary that sanctified the gold?Also,‘ Whoever takes an oath by the altar, it means nothing. But whoever takes an oath by the gift that is on it is bound by his oath.’Blind people! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift?Therefore, the one who takes an oath by the altar takes an oath by it and by everything on it.The one who takes an oath by the sanctuary takes an oath by it and by Him who dwells in it.And the one who takes an oath by heaven takes an oath by God’s throne and by Him who sits on it.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You pay a tenth of mint, dill, and cumin, yet you have neglected the more important matters of the law— justice, mercy, and faith. These things should have been done without neglecting the others.Blind guides! You strain out a gnat, yet gulp down a camel!“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence!Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup, so the outside of it may also become clean.“ Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which appear beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and every impurity.In the same way, on the outside you seem righteous to people, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

“ You were born entirely in sin,” they replied,“ and are you trying to teach us?” Then they threw him out.

But the Lord said to him:“ Now you Pharisees clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside you are full of greed and evil.Fools! Didn’t He who made the outside make the inside too?But give from what is within to the poor, and then everything is clean for you.“ But woe to you Pharisees! You give a tenth of mint, rue, and every kind of herb, and you bypass justice and love for God. These things you should have done without neglecting the others.“ Woe to you Pharisees! You love the front seat in the synagogues and greetings in the marketplaces.“ Woe to you! You are like unmarked graves; the people who walk over them don’t know it.”One of the experts in the law answered Him,“ Teacher, when You say these things You insult us too.”Then He said:“ Woe also to you experts in the law! You load people with burdens that are hard to carry, yet you yourselves don’t touch these burdens with one of your fingers.“ Woe to you! You build monuments to the prophets, and your fathers killed them.Therefore, you are witnesses that you approve the deeds of your fathers, for they killed them, and you build their monuments.Because of this, the wisdom of God said,‘ I will send them prophets and apostles, and some of them they will kill and persecute,’so that this generation may be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets shed since the foundation of the world—from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who perished between the altar and the sanctuary.“ Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible.“ Woe to you experts in the law! You have taken away the key of knowledge! You didn’t go in yourselves, and you hindered those who were going in.”When He left there, the scribes and the Pharisees began to oppose Him fiercely and to cross-examine Him about many things;they were lying in wait for Him to trap Him in something He said.
