Then the temple police came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them,“ Why haven’t you brought Him?”The police answered,“ No man ever spoke like this!”Then the Pharisees responded to them:“ Are you fooled too?Have any of the rulers or Pharisees believed in Him?But this crowd, which doesn’t know the law, is accursed!”Nicodemus— the one who came to Him previously, being one of them— said to them,“ Our law doesn’t judge a man before it hears from him and knows what he’s doing, does it?”“ You aren’t from Galilee too, are you?” they replied.“ Investigate and you will see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”

In the evening of that first day of the week, the disciples were gathered together with the doors locked because of their fear of the Jews. Then Jesus came, stood among them, and said to them,“ Peace to you!”

Nevertheless, many did believe in Him even among the rulers, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, so they would not be banned from the synagogue.For they loved praise from men more than praise from God.

“ And I say to you, My friends, don’t fear those who kill the body, and after that can do nothing more.But I will show you the One to fear: Fear Him who has authority to throw people into hell after death. Yes, I say to you, this is the One to fear!Aren’t five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten in God’s sight.Indeed, the hairs of your head are all counted. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows!“ And I say to you, anyone who acknowledges Me before men, the Son of Man will also acknowledge him before the angels of God,but whoever denies Me before men will be denied before the angels of God.

Listen to Me, you who know righteousness, the people in whose heart is My instruction: do not fear disgrace by men, and do not be shattered by their taunts.

But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face because he stood condemned.For he regularly ate with the Gentiles before certain men came from James. However, when they came, he withdrew and separated himself, because he feared those from the circumcision party.Then the rest of the Jews joined his hypocrisy, so that even Barnabas was carried away by their hypocrisy.

The Lord is my light and my salvation— whom should I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life— of whom should I be afraid?When evildoers came against me to devour my flesh, my foes and my enemies stumbled and fell.

The fear of man is a snare, but the one who trusts in the Lord is protected.

I— I am the One who comforts you. Who are you that you should fear man who dies, or a son of man who is given up like grass?

But the cowards, unbelievers, vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars— their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”
