And it happened that He was passing through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples began to make their way along while picking the heads of grain.The Pharisees were saying to Him,“ Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”And He* said to them,“ Have you never read what David did when he was in need and he and his companions became hungry;how he entered the house of God in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests, and he also gave it to those who were with him?”Jesus said to them,“ The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath.So the Son of Man is Lord, even of the Sabbath.”He entered a synagogue again; and a man was there whose hand was withered.And they were watching Him closely to see if He would heal him on the Sabbath, so that they might accuse Him.He* said to the man with the withered hand,“ Get up and come forward!”And He* said to them,“ Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do harm, to save a life or to kill?” But they kept silent.After looking around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, He* said to the man,“ Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.The Pharisees went out and immediately began conspiring with the Herodians against Him, as to how they might put Him to death.

Jesus answered them,“ I did one deed, and you all are astonished.For this reason Moses has given you circumcision( not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and even on a Sabbath you circumcise a man.If a man receives circumcision on a Sabbath so that the Law of Moses will not be broken, are you angry at Me because I made an entire man well on a Sabbath?

For this reason the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because He was doing these things on a Sabbath.

Now Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.And there was a woman who for eighteen years had had a sickness caused by a spirit; and she was bent over double, and could not straighten up at all.When Jesus saw her, He called her over and said to her,“ Woman, you are freed from your sickness.”And He laid His hands on her; and immediately she stood up straight again, and began glorifying God.But the synagogue leader, indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, began saying to the crowd in response,“ There are six days during which work should be done; so come during them and get healed, and not on the Sabbath day.”But the Lord answered him and said,“ You hypocrites, does each of you on the Sabbath not untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it away to water it?And this woman, a daughter of Abraham as she is, whom Satan has bound for eighteen long years, should she not have been released from this restraint on the Sabbath day?”And as He said this, all His opponents were being humiliated; and the entire crowd was rejoicing over all the glorious things being done by Him.

Now it happened that Jesus was passing through some grainfields on a Sabbath, and His disciples were picking the heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands, and eating them.But some of the Pharisees said,“ Why are you doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?”And Jesus, answering them, said,“ Have you not even read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him,how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the consecrated bread, which is not lawful for anyone to eat except the priests alone, and gave it to his companions?”And He was saying to them,“ The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”On another Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught; and a man was there whose right hand was withered.Now the scribes and the Pharisees were watching Him closely to see if He healed on the Sabbath, so that they might find a reason to accuse Him.But He knew what they were thinking, and He said to the man with the withered hand,“ Get up and come forward!” And he got up and came forward.And Jesus said to them,“ I ask you whether it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath or to do harm, to save a life or to destroy it?”And after looking around at them all, He said to him,“ Stretch out your hand!” And he did so; and his hand was restored.But they themselves were filled with senseless rage, and began discussing together what they might do to Jesus.

At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat.Now when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him,“ Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath!”But He said to them,“ Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions—how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone?Or have you not read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple violate the Sabbath, and yet are innocent?But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here.But if you had known what this means:‘ I desire compassion, rather than sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”Departing from there, He went into their synagogue.And a man was there whose hand was withered. And they questioned Jesus, asking,“ Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”— so that they might bring charges against Him.But He said to them,“ What man is there among you who has a sheep, and if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will he not take hold of it and lift it out?How much more valuable then is a person than a sheep! So then, it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.”Then He* said to the man,“ Stretch out your hand!” He stretched it out, and it was restored to normal, like the other.But the Pharisees went out and conspired against Him, as to how they might destroy Him.

It happened that when He went into the house of one of the leaders of the Pharisees on the Sabbath to eat bread, they were watching Him closely.
