他们彼此说：“我们在弟弟的事上实在有罪。他恳求我们的时候，我们见他心中苦楚，却不肯听，所以现在这苦楚临到我们了。”鲁本就回应他们，说：“我不是对你们说过：‘不要对那孩子犯罪’吗？可是你们不肯听；看哪，他的血债现在来追讨了！”

你这说不可通奸的，难道自己还通奸吗？你这憎恶偶像的，难道自己还偷取庙里的东西吗？

愿那些寻索要除掉我性命的，一同抱愧蒙羞；愿那些喜欢我遭害的，后退受辱。

耶稣说了这些话，所有反对他的人都感到蒙羞，可是众人都因他所行的一切荣耀的事而感到欢喜。

愿我的死敌，蒙羞灭绝；愿那些谋求害我的，披戴辱骂和羞愧。

那时有上万的人群聚集，甚至彼此践踏。耶稣一开始先对他的门徒们说：“你们要提防法利赛人的酵母，就是伪善。被掩盖的事没有将不被显露出来的，隐秘的事也没有将不被知道的。所以你们在暗中所说的，会在明处被听见；你们在内室里耳语的，将要在屋顶上被宣扬出去。

你做了这些，我还保持沉默；你就以为我完全像你一样；其实我要责备你，并且把这些摆列在你眼前。

耶稣直起身来问她：“妇人，他们在哪里？没有人定你的罪吗？”

耶稣又对众人说：“我就是世界的光。跟从我的人，绝不会在黑暗里行走，却要得到生命的光。”

耶稣的名声被传扬出去，希律王也听见了。有些人说：“施洗者约翰从死人中复活了，所以这些能力在他里面做工。”也有些人说：“他是以利亚。”还有些人说：“他是个先知，像古代先知中的一位。”但希律听了却说：“是被我砍了头的约翰！这个人复活了！”

清晨，耶稣又来到圣殿，全体民众到他那里，他就坐下，开始教导他们。
