耶穌覺出他們的惡意來，就說：『假冒為善的人哪，為甚麼試探我？

我們也不要故意試探主，像他們有人試探了，就被蛇所滅。

耶穌一句話也不回答她。門徒上前來，求耶穌說：『請打發她走吧，因為她在我們後頭喊叫呢。』

他們恨那在城門口責備人的，厭惡那說正直話的人。

耶穌從那裏出來，經學士和法利賽人就逼得很厲害，盤問他更多的事，伺伏等着他，要從他口中獵取話柄來。

猶大是個小獅子；「我兒啊，你抓了所抓到的便上山穴去；』他屈身伏着像公獅、像母獅，誰敢惹他呢？

於是直窺探着，差遣偵察，自己裝做好人，要在他的話語上抓得把柄，好拿他送交在統治官的管理和權柄之下。就詰問他說：『先生，我們曉得、你都說得對，教訓得對；你不取外貌，你只憑真誠教授上帝的道路。我們納貢銀給該撒可以不可以？』耶穌察看出他們的狡猾來，就對他們說：

『看吧，我差遣你們如同綿羊在豺狼中間；所以你們要靈巧像蛇，要天真像鴿子。

尋索我命的設下網羅；謀求要害我的、直講毁滅的事，終日沉思着詭詐。但是我呢、我如同聾子、不能聽，如同啞巴、不能開口。我如同不聽見的人，口中沒有控辯的話。

有人詰問他說：『人離棄妻子可以不可以？』意思是要試探他。

法利賽人出來，開始同耶穌辯論，向他求個從天上來的神迹，要試探他。

其中有一個人詰問耶穌，試探他說：

因此通達人在這種時勢就靜默不言；因為這時勢險惡。

受激怒去管不干己事的爭端，好像揪住過路之狗的耳朵。

這些看見我的榮耀、我的神迹、我在埃及和曠野所行的神迹、仍然這樣十次八次地試探我、不聽我聲音的人、

法利賽人和撒都該人上前來，試探耶穌，求他將一個由天而來的神迹顯給他們看。

耶穌卻不作聲。大祭司對他說：『我指着永活的上帝誓囑你，告訴我們，你是上帝的兒子、上帝所膏立者不是。』

立刻有人手的指頭伸出來，在王家宮殿的粉牆上、燈臺相對的地方、寫字；王見了寫字的手掌。

清早又到殿裏；眾民都到他那裏；他就坐下，教訓他們。

我曾說過：『我要約束我的行徑，免得我由舌頭而犯罪；儘惡人在我面前的時候，我總要約束我的口如同用籠套着。』

又另有人試探耶穌，向他求個由天而來的神迹。

我們該納麼？還是不該納？』耶穌知道他們的詐偽，就對他們說：『你們為甚麼試探我？拿個「一日工錢」幣給我看。』
