These all died in faith, although they had not received the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth.

And all the nations of the earth will be blessed by your offspring because you have obeyed my command.”

“ Our father is Abraham,” they replied.“ If you were Abraham’s children,” Jesus told them,“ you would do what Abraham did.

For truly I tell you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see the things you see but didn’t see them, to hear the things you hear but didn’t hear them.

You know, then, that those who have faith, these are Abraham’s sons.Now the Scripture saw in advance that God would justify the Gentiles by faith and proclaimed the gospel ahead of time to Abraham, saying, All the nations will be blessed through you.Consequently, those who have faith are blessed with Abraham, who had faith.

For I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see the things you see but didn’t see them; to hear the things you hear but didn’t hear them.”

All these were approved through their faith, but they did not receive what was promised,

Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who prophesied about the grace that would come to you, searched and carefully investigated.They inquired into what time or what circumstances the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating when he testified in advance to the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow.It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you. These things have now been announced to you through those who preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven— angels long to catch a glimpse of these things.

Simeon took him up in his arms, praised God, and said,Now, Master, you can dismiss your servant in peace, as you promised.For my eyes have seen your salvation.

I know you are descendants of Abraham, but you are trying to kill me because my word has no place among you.
