You must purge the evil from Israel.If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her,you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death— the young woman because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man’s wife. I will sentence you to the punishment of women who commit adultery and who shed blood; I will bring on you the blood vengeance of my wrath and jealous anger.Then I will deliver you into the hands of your lovers, and they will tear down your mounds and destroy your lofty shrines. They will strip you of your clothes and take your fine jewelry and leave you stark naked.They will bring a mob against you, who will stone you and hack you to pieces with their swords. (niv)

Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.”“ Why then,” they asked,“ did Moses command that a man give his wife a certificate of divorce and send her away?”Jesus replied,“ Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard.
