Do you thus repay the Lord, you foolish and senseless people? Is not he your father, who created you, who made you and established you?

Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he my darling child? For as often as I speak against him, I do remember him still. Therefore my heart yearns for him; I will surely have mercy on him, declares the Lord.

But you, draw near, sons of the sorceress, offspring of the adulterer and the loose woman.Whom are you mocking? Against whom do you open your mouth wide and stick out your tongue? When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea,“ Go, take to yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the Lord.”

And you took your sons and your daughters, whom you had borne to me, and these you sacrificed to them to be devoured. Were your whorings so small a matterthat you slaughtered my children and delivered them up as an offering by fire to them?

“ Plead with your mother, plead— for she is not my wife, and I am not her husband— that she put away her whoring from her face, and her adultery from between her breasts;lest I strip her naked and make her as in the day she was born, and make her like a wilderness, and make her like a parched land, and kill her with thirst.Upon her children also I will have no mercy, because they are children of whoredom.For their mother has played the whore; she who conceived them has acted shamefully. For she said,‘ I will go after my lovers, who give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, my oil and my drink.’

But righteous men shall pass judgment on them with the sentence of adulteresses, and with the sentence of women who shed blood, because they are adulteresses, and blood is on their hands.”For thus says the Lord God:“ Bring up a vast host against them, and make them an object of terror and a plunder.And the host shall stone them and cut them down with their swords. They shall kill their sons and their daughters, and burn up their houses.
