I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word.

After these things Jesus walked in Galilee: for he would not walk in Jewry, because the Jews sought to kill him.

Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

And because I tell[ you] the truth, ye believe me not.Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear[ them] not, because ye are not of God.

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know[ them], because they are spiritually discerned.

Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham,[ are they] all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.

How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that[ cometh] from God only?

Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

Why do ye not understand my speech?[ even] because ye cannot hear my word.

This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with[ his] finger wrote on the ground,[ as though he heard them not].

Then said some of them of Jerusalem, Is not this he, whom they seek to kill?

Men[ and] brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and[ their] ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with[ their] eyes, and hear with[ their] ears, and should understand with[ their] heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

Did not Moses give you the law, and[ yet] none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me?

Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again,He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with[ their] eyes, nor understand with[ their] heart, and be converted, and I should heal them.These things said Esaias, when he saw his glory, and spake of him.Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess[ him], lest they should be put out of the synagogue:For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth[ it] not, then cometh the wicked[ one], and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
