I know that you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are looking for a way to kill me, because you have no room for my word.

After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish leaders there were looking for a way to kill him. (niv)

How can you believe since you accept glory from one another but do not seek the glory that comes from the only God? (niv)

Again his Jewish opponents picked up stones to stone him, (niv)

“ Abraham is our father,” they answered.“ If you were Abraham’s children,” said Jesus,“ then you would do what Abraham did.As it is, you are looking for a way to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do such things. (niv)

They answered him,“ We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?” (niv)

Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. (niv)

They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him. But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. (niv)

At that point some of the people of Jerusalem began to ask,“ Isn’t this the man they are trying to kill? (niv)

“ Fellow children of Abraham and you God- fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent. (niv)

For this people’s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.’ (niv)

So from that day on they plotted to take his life. (niv)

So, because Jesus was doing these things on the Sabbath, the Jewish leaders began to persecute him.In his defense Jesus said to them,“ My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”For this reason they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself equal with God. Has not Moses given you the law? Yet not one of you keeps the law. Why are you trying to kill me?” (niv)

For this reason they could not believe, because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:“ He has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts, so they can neither see with their eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor turn— and I would heal them.”Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory and spoke about him.Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;for they loved human praise more than praise from God. (niv)

When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away.The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful.
