耶稣面对奉献箱坐着，看众人怎样把钱投入奉献箱里。许多富有的人投进了很多钱。

耶稣把他的门徒们召来，对他们说：“我确实地告诉你们：这穷寡妇所投入奉献箱的，比所有的人投的更多。

祭司长们捡起银钱，说：“这既然是血钱，不可以放到圣殿奉献里。”

于是他们又试图抓耶稣，他却从他们的手中脱离出来。

其中有些人想要抓他，可是没有人下手。

就在这时候，有一些法利赛人前来对耶稣说：“你离开吧，从这里走开！因为希律想要杀你。”耶稣对他们说：“你们去告诉那狐狸：看哪！今天明天我驱赶鬼魔、治愈疾病，然后在第三天，我的事就得以完成了。不过今天、明天、后天，我必须往前走，因为先知不能在耶路撒冷之外被杀！

耶稣回答：“白天不是有十二个小时吗？人如果在白天行走，就不会绊倒，因为他看见这世界的光。但人如果在黑夜里行走，就会绊倒，因为在他里面没有光。”

他们因此拿起石头要砸他。耶稣却被隐藏，离开了圣殿。

经文士和祭司长们知道这个比喻是针对他们而说的，当时就想下手捉拿耶稣，可是又怕民众。
