Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct he should show his works done in the gentleness that wisdom brings.But if you have bitter jealousy and selfishness in your hearts, do not boast and tell lies against the truth.Such wisdom does not come from above but is earthly, natural, demonic.For where there is jealousy and selfishness, there is disorder and every evil practice.But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, accommodating, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial, and not hypocritical.And the fruit that consists of righteousness is planted in peace among those who make peace.

They say,‘ Keep to yourself! Don’t get near me, for I am holier than you!’ These people are like smoke in my nostrils, like a fire that keeps burning all day long.

They replied,“ You were born completely in sinfulness, and yet you presume to teach us?” So they threw him out.

Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this and asked him,“ We are not blind too, are we?”

Therefore I will again do an amazing thing for these people– an absolutely extraordinary deed. Wise men will have nothing to say, the sages will have no explanations.”Those who try to hide their plans from the LORD are as good as dead, who do their work in secret and boast,“ Who sees us? Who knows what we’re doing?”Your thinking is perverse! Should the potter be regarded as clay? Should the thing made say about its maker,“ He didn’t make me”? Or should the pottery say about the potter,“ He doesn’t understand”?In just a very short time Lebanon will turn into an orchard, and the orchard will be considered a forest.At that time the deaf will be able to hear words read from a scroll, and the eyes of the blind will be able to see through deep darkness.The downtrodden will again rejoice in the LORD; the poor among humankind will take delight in the Holy One of Israel.

Where is the wise man? Where is the expert in the Mosaic law? Where is the debater of this age? Has God not made the wisdom of the world foolish?For since in the wisdom of God the world by its wisdom did not know God, God was pleased to save those who believe by the foolishness of preaching.

Therefore, listen to the LORD’s word, you who mock, you rulers of these people who reside in Jerusalem!

Guard against self- deception, each of you. If someone among you thinks he is wise in this age, let him become foolish so that he can become wise.For the wisdom of this age is foolishness with God. As it is written,“ He catches the wise in their craftiness.”And again,“ The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”

Those who think they are wise are as good as dead, those who think they possess understanding.
