Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth.Such“ wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic.For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness. Can the pot say to the potter,“ You know nothing”?In a very short time, will not Lebanon be turned into a fertile field and the fertile field seem like a forest?In that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll, and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see.Once more the humble will rejoice in the Lord; the needy will rejoice in the Holy One of Israel. Where is the wise person? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Therefore hear the word of the Lord, you scoffers who rule this people in Jerusalem. (niv)

Do not deceive yourselves. If any of you think you are wise by the standards of this age, you should become“ fools” so that you may become wise.For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written:“ He catches the wise in their craftiness”;and again,“ The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.” (niv)

Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. (niv)
