他們聽了這話，天未亮就進殿去教訓人。大祭司和同着他的人就來，叫齊了議院和以色列人的全體耆老，差遣人到監獄裏，要把使徒提出來。差役到了，卻不見他們在監裏；就回來報告說：『我們看見監獄關得極妥當，守衛兵在各門外站着；趕到開了門，裏面卻一個人也沒見着。』守殿官和祭司長聽見了這些報告的話，心裏很為難，不知道事情要怎樣變化。有一個人來，向他們報告說：『你看，你們放在監裏的人、正站在殿裏教訓人民呢！』於是守殿官同差役去，把使徒帶來，並沒有用暴力，因為怕人民，恐怕他們被人用石頭打死。既把使徒帶到了，就叫他們站在議院中。大祭司詰問他們說：
