Does not Scripture say that the Messiah will come from David’s descendants and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?”

Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the offspring of David, and comes from Bethlehem, the village where David was?”

For the Scriptures clearly state that the Messiah will be born of the royal line of David, in Bethlehem, the village where King David was born.”

Doesn’t the Scripture say that the Messiah comes from David’s offspring and from the town of Bethlehem, where David lived?”

伯利恒以法他啊！你在犹大诸城中虽然细小（“伯利恒……细小”有古卷作“以法他家啊，你在犹大诸族中虽然细小”），必有一位从你那里出来，为我作以色列的统治者；他的根源从太初，从亘古就有了。（本节在《马索拉文本》为5:1）

他们回答：“在犹太的伯利恒。因为有先知在经上这样说：

约瑟本是大卫家族的人，也从加利利的拿撒勒上犹太去，到了大卫的城伯利恒，

今天在大卫的城里，为你们生了救主，就是主基督。

大卫的子孙，亚伯拉罕的后裔，耶稣基督的家谱：

从耶西的树干必生出一根嫩芽，从他的根而出的枝条必结果子。

耶和华对撒母耳说：“你为扫罗悲哀要到几时呢？我已经弃绝他作以色列的王了。你把膏油盛满了角，然后去吧！我要差派你到伯利恒人耶西那里去，因为我在他的众子中，已经预定了一个为我作王。”

“看哪！日子快到（这是耶和华的宣告），我必给大卫兴起一个公义的苗裔；他必执政为王，行事有智慧，在地上施行公正和公义。

耶和华实实在在向大卫起了誓，他必不会收回，他说：“我要从你的后裔中，立一位坐在你的王位上。

我必永远坚立你的后裔，也必世世代代建立你的王位。’”（细拉）

有一个仆人回答：“我见过伯利恒人耶西的一个儿子，他善于弹琴，是个大能的勇士，又是个战士，谈吐合宜，容貌俊美，耶和华也与他同在。”

可是我们知道这个人是从哪里来的，只是基督来的时候，没有人知道他是从哪里来的！”

扫罗问他：“年轻人啊，你是谁的儿子？”大卫回答：“我是你仆人伯利恒人耶西的儿子。”

于是撒母耳照着耶和华的话去行。他到了伯利恒的时候，城里的长老就都战战兢兢地出来迎接他，说：“你是为平安来的吗？”

撒母耳问耶西：“孩子们全都在这里吗？”耶西回答：“还有一个最小的，正在牧羊。”撒母耳对耶西说：“你派人去把他带回来，因为他没有来到以前，我们决不入席。”耶西就派人去把大卫带回来。他面色红润，眼目清秀，外貌英俊。耶和华说：“就是这一个，你起来膏立他吧！”撒母耳就拿起盛油的角，在他的兄长中膏立他。从那天起，耶和华的灵就大大感动大卫。后来撒母耳动身往拉玛去了。
