After saying this, he breathed on them and said,“ Receive the Holy Spirit.

And look, I am sending you what my Father promised. As for you, stay in the city until you are empowered from on high.”

Peter replied,“ Repent and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth. It is for your benefit that I go away, because if I don’t go away the Counselor will not come to you. If I go, I will send him to you.

When he had left, Jesus said,“ Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in him.If God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself and will glorify him at once.

Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

When they had prayed, the place where they were assembled was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God boldly.

You will joyfully draw water from the springs of salvation,

“ What then?” they asked him.“ Are you Elijah?”“ I am not,” he said.“ Are you the Prophet?”“ No,” he answered.

But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and remind you of everything I have told you.

You ascended to the heights, taking away captives; you received gifts from people, even from the rebellious, so that the LORD God might dwell there.

Now, Father, glorify me in your presence with that glory I had with you before the world existed.

The crowds were saying,“ This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee.”

The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant Jesus, whom you handed over and denied before Pilate, though he had decided to release him.

how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious?

When the people saw the sign he had done, they said,“ This truly is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

Moses said: The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to everything he tells you.And everyone who does not listen to that prophet will be completely cut off from the people.

Jesus replied to them,“ The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.

“ The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him.This is what you requested from the LORD your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said,‘ Let us not continue to hear the voice of the LORD our God or see this great fire any longer, so that we will not die!’Then the LORD said to me,‘ They have spoken well.I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers. I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him.

And there was a lot of murmuring about him among the crowds. Some were saying,“ He’s a good man.” Others were saying,“ No, on the contrary, he’s deceiving the people.”

If you respond to my warning, then I will pour out my spirit on you and teach you my words.

So they asked him,“ Why then do you baptize if you aren’t the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet?”

I didn’t know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water told me,‘ The one you see the Spirit descending and resting on— he is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’

You, however, are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him.

Then fear came over everyone, and they glorified God, saying,“ A great prophet has risen among us,” and“ God has visited his people.”

In him you also were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and when you believed.The Holy Spirit is the down payment of our inheritance, until the redemption of the possession, to the praise of his glory.

And don’t grieve God’s Holy Spirit. You were sealed by him for the day of redemption.

While he was with them, he commanded them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait for the Father’s promise.“ Which,” he said,“ you have heard me speak about;for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit in a few days.”So when they had come together, they asked him,“ Lord, are you restoring the kingdom to Israel at this time?”He said to them,“ It is not for you to know times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority.But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

John answered them all,“ I baptize you with water, but one who is more powerful than I am is coming. I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.

They replied,“ Some say John the Baptist; others, Elijah; still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
