“ But woe to you, experts in the law and you Pharisees, hypocrites! You keep locking people out of the kingdom of heaven! For you neither enter nor permit those trying to enter to go in.

Then the officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them,“ Why didn’t you bring him back with you?”The officers replied,“ No one ever spoke like this man!”Then the Pharisees answered,“ You haven’t been deceived too, have you?None of the rulers or the Pharisees have believed in him, have they?But this rabble who do not know the law are accursed!”Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus before and who was one of the rulers, said,“ Our law doesn’t condemn a man unless it first hears from him and learns what he is doing, does it?”They replied,“ You aren’t from Galilee too, are you? Investigate carefully and you will see that no prophet comes from Galilee!”[[And each one departed to his own house.

All the crowds were amazed and said,“ Could this one be the Son of David?”But when the Pharisees heard this they said,“ He does not cast out demons except by the power of Beelzebul, the ruler of demons!”

Then Jesus said to the chief priests, the officers of the temple guard, and the elders who had come out to get him,“ Have you come out with swords and clubs like you would against an outlaw?Day after day when I was with you in the temple courts, you did not arrest me. But this is your hour, and that of the power of darkness!”

Thus the Pharisees said to one another,“ You see that you can do nothing. Look, the world has run off after him!”
