那時，猶大帶著一隊兵，還有祭司長和法利賽人的差役，拿著燈籠、火把、武器，來到園子裡。

“虛偽的經學家和法利賽人哪，你們有禍了！你們在人面前關了天國的門，自己不進去，連正要進去的人，你們也不准他們進去。﹙有些抄本有第

差役回到祭司長和法利賽人那裡。他們就問差役：“你們為甚麼沒有把他帶來？”差役回答：“從來沒有人像他這樣講話的！”法利賽人說：“連你們也受了欺騙嗎？官長或法利賽人中間有誰是信他的呢？至於這群不明白律法的人，他們是可咒詛的。”他們當中有一個人，就是以前來見耶穌的尼哥德慕，對他們說：“如果不先聽取他本人的口供，查明他所作的事，我們的律法怎能把他定罪呢？”他們回答：“你也是從加利利出來的嗎？你去考查一下，就知道先知是不會從加利利興起的。”於是各人都回家去了。（後期抄本才加上7:53~8:11）

群眾都很驚奇，說：“難道他就是大衛的子孫？”法利賽人聽見了，說：“這個人趕鬼，只不過是靠鬼王別西卜罷了。”

耶穌對那些前來捉拿他的祭司長、守殿官和長老說：“你們帶著刀棒出來，把我當作強盜捉拿嗎？我天天跟你們在殿裡，你們不向我下手；但現在是你們的時候了，也是黑暗掌權的時候了。”

於是法利賽人彼此說：“你們看，你們都是徒勞無功，世人都去跟隨他了！”
