and Jesus’ brothers said to him,“ Leave here and go to Judea, where your followers can see your miracles!

As Jesus was speaking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him.

For even his brothers didn’t believe in him.

Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him, but they couldn’t get to him because of the crowd.

But after his brothers left for the festival, Jesus also went, though secretly, staying out of public view.

But when David’s oldest brother, Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry.“ What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded.“ What about those few sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!”

Even your brothers, members of your own family, have turned against you. They plot and raise complaints against you. Do not trust them, no matter how pleasantly they speak.

Then Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see him. They stood outside and sent word for him to come out and talk with them.

One night Joseph had a dream, and when he told his brothers about it, they hated him more than ever.“ Listen to this dream,” he said.“ We were out in the field, tying up bundles of grain. Suddenly my bundle stood up, and your bundles all gathered around and bowed low before mine!”His brothers responded,“ So you think you will be our king, do you? Do you actually think you will reign over us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dreams and the way he talked about them.Soon Joseph had another dream, and again he told his brothers about it.“ Listen, I have had another dream,” he said.“ The sun, moon, and eleven stars bowed low before me!”This time he told the dream to his father as well as to his brothers, but his father scolded him.“ What kind of dream is that?” he asked.“ Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow to the ground before you?”But while his brothers were jealous of Joseph, his father wondered what the dreams meant.

“ Come on, let’s kill him and throw him into one of these cisterns. We can tell our father,‘ A wild animal has eaten him.’ Then we’ll see what becomes of his dreams!”

They sent some of their disciples, along with the supporters of Herod, to meet with him.“ Teacher,” they said,“ we know how honest you are. You teach the way of God truthfully. You are impartial and don’t play favorites.Now tell us what you think about this: Is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”

Then Peter stepped forward with the eleven other apostles and shouted to the crowd,“ Listen carefully, all of you, fellow Jews and residents of Jerusalem! Make no mistake about this.
