The people were surprised when they heard him.“ How does he know so much when he hasn’t been trained?” they asked.

The Jews there were amazed and asked,“ How did this man get such learning without having been taught?”

The Jews there were amazed. They asked,“ How did this man learn so much without being taught?”

The Jews therefore marveled, saying,“ How is it that this man has learning, when he has never studied?”

Then the Jews were amazed and said,“ How is this man so learned, since he hasn’t been trained?”

The Jews then were astonished, saying,“ How has this man become learned, not having been educated?”

And the Jews marveled, saying,“ How does this Man know letters, having never studied?”

The Jews therefore marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

Then the Jews were amazed and said,“ How does He know the Scriptures, since He hasn’t been trained?”

And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

Then the Jewish leaders were astonished and said,“ How does this man know so much when he has never had formal instruction?”

The Jews therefore marveled, saying,“ How does this man know letters, having never been educated?”

Everyone spoke well of him and was amazed by the gracious words that came from his lips.“ How can this be?” they asked.“ Isn’t this Joseph’s son?”

“ We have never heard anyone speak like this!” the guards responded.

All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

He returned to Nazareth, his hometown. When he taught there in the synagogue, everyone was amazed and said,“ Where does he get this wisdom and the power to do miracles?”

His reply amazed them, and they went away.

But Amos replied,“ I’m not a professional prophet, and I was never trained to be one. I’m just a shepherd, and I take care of sycamore fig trees.But the Lord called me away from my flock and told me,‘ Go and prophesy to my people in Israel.’

This was John’s testimony when the Jewish leaders sent priests and Temple assistants from Jerusalem to ask John,“ Who are you?”

For Jesus is the one referred to in the Scriptures, where it says,‘ The stone that you builders rejected has now become the cornerstone.’There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.”

Suddenly, Festus shouted,“ Paul, you are insane. Too much study has made you crazy!”

The next Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed. They asked,“ Where did he get all this wisdom and the power to perform such miracles?”Then they scoffed,“ He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among us.” They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him.

When the crowds heard him, they were astounded at his teaching.

They were completely amazed.“ How can this be?” they exclaimed.“ These people are all from Galilee,and yet we hear them speaking in our own native languages!Here we are— Parthians, Medes, Elamites, people from Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus, the province of Asia,Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, and the areas of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome( both Jews and converts to Judaism), Cretans, and Arabs. And we all hear these people speaking in our own languages about the wonderful things God has done!”They stood there amazed and perplexed.“ What can this mean?” they asked each other.But others in the crowd ridiculed them, saying,“ They’re just drunk, that’s all!”

When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching,for he taught with real authority— quite unlike their teachers of religious law.
