Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said,“ He is a good man.” Others replied,“ No, he deceives the people.”

The Pharisees answered them,“ Have you also been deceived?

The Pharisees heard the crowd muttering these things about him, and the chief priests and Pharisees sent officers to arrest him.

Some of the people of Jerusalem therefore said,“ Is not this the man whom they seek to kill?And here he is, speaking openly, and they say nothing to him! Can it be that the authorities really know that this is the Christ?But we know where this man comes from, and when the Christ appears, no one will know where he comes from.”

Do all things without grumbling or disputing,

Now there was a man named Joseph, from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, a good and righteous man,

And although they were seeking to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because they held him to be a prophet.

Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, saying,“ Certainly this man was innocent!”

and said,“ Sir, we remember how that impostor said, while he was still alive,‘ After three days I will rise.’

It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.

Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, saying,“ A great prophet has arisen among us!” and“ God has visited his people!”

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples,“ Who do people say that the Son of Man is?”And they said,“ Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”He said to them,“ But who do you say that I am?”Simon Peter replied,“ You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

And Jesus said to him,“ Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone.

for he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a great many people were added to the Lord.

They replied,“ Are you from Galilee too? Search and see that no prophet arises from Galilee.”

There was again a division among the Jews because of these words.Many of them said,“ He has a demon, and is insane; why listen to him?”Others said,“ These are not the words of one who is oppressed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?”

For one will scarcely die for a righteous person— though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—

When the people saw the sign that he had done, they said,“ This is indeed the Prophet who is to come into the world!”
