Then Jesus turned to the Twelve and asked,“ Are you also going to leave?”

耶穌就對那十二個門徒說：「你們也要去嗎？」

耶穌就對那十二使徒說：「你們也要離開嗎？」

耶穌就對那十二使徒說：「你們也要離開嗎？」

於是耶穌問那十二個門徒：「你們也要離開我嗎？」

於是耶穌對十二門徒說：“你們也想離去嗎？”

於是耶穌就對那十二個人說：『難道你們也想要去麼？』

耶穌就對十二使徒說：「你們也不會想離開吧？」

耶穌謂十二徒曰、爾亦欲去乎、

耶穌謂十二徒曰、爾曹亦欲去乎、

耶穌謂十二門徒曰、爾曹亦欲去乎、

因此門徒多有退者、不復從其遊。

“ You do not want to leave too, do you?” Jesus asked the Twelve.

“ You don’t want to leave also, do you?” Jesus asked the 12 disciples.

So Jesus said to the Twelve,“ Do you want to go away as well?”

So Jesus said to the Twelve,“ You don’t want to go away too, do you?”

So Jesus said to the twelve,“ You do not want to leave also, do you?”

Then Jesus said to the twelve,“ Do you also want to go away?”

Jesus said therefore unto the twelve, Would ye also go away?

Therefore Jesus said to the Twelve,“ You don’t want to go away too, do you?”

Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away?

So Jesus said to the twelve,“ You don’t want to go away too, do you?”

Jesus said therefore to the twelve,“ You don’t also want to go away, do you?”

But Naomi replied,“ Why should you go on with me? Can I still give birth to other sons who could grow up to be your husbands?No, my daughters, return to your parents’ homes, for I am too old to marry again. And even if it were possible, and I were to get married tonight and bear sons, then what?Would you wait for them to grow up and refuse to marry someone else? No, of course not, my daughters! Things are far more bitter for me than for you, because the Lord himself has raised his fist against me.”And again they wept together, and Orpah kissed her mother in law good bye. But Ruth clung tightly to Naomi.“ Look,” Naomi said to her,“ your sister in law has gone back to her people and to her gods. You should do the same.”But Ruth replied,“ Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. Wherever you go, I will go; wherever you live, I will live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God.Wherever you die, I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us!”When Naomi saw that Ruth was determined to go with her, she said nothing more.

But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”The people replied,“ We would never abandon the Lord and serve other gods.For the Lord our God is the one who rescued us and our ancestors from slavery in the land of Egypt. He performed mighty miracles before our very eyes. As we traveled through the wilderness among our enemies, he preserved us.It was the Lord who drove out the Amorites and the other nations living here in the land. So we, too, will serve the Lord, for he alone is our God.”Then Joshua warned the people,“ You are not able to serve the Lord, for he is a holy and jealous God. He will not forgive your rebellion and your sins.If you abandon the Lord and serve other gods, he will turn against you and destroy you, even though he has been so good to you.”But the people answered Joshua,“ No, we will serve the Lord!”“ You are a witness to your own decision,” Joshua said.“ You have chosen to serve the Lord.”“ Yes,” they replied,“ we are witnesses to what we have said.”

Then the king turned and said to Ittai, a leader of the men from Gath,“ Why are you coming with us? Go on back to King Absalom, for you are a guest in Israel, a foreigner in exile.You arrived only recently, and should I force you today to wander with us? I don’t even know where we will go. Go on back and take your kinsmen with you, and may the Lord show you his unfailing love and faithfulness.”

A large crowd was following Jesus. He turned around and said to them,“ If you want to be my disciple, you must, by comparison, hate everyone else— your father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters— yes, even your own life. Otherwise, you cannot be my disciple.And if you do not carry your own cross and follow me, you cannot be my disciple.“ But don’t begin until you count the cost. For who would begin construction of a building without first calculating the cost to see if there is enough money to finish it?Otherwise, you might complete only the foundation before running out of money, and then everyone would laugh at you.They would say,‘ There’s the person who started that building and couldn’t afford to finish it!’“ Or what king would go to war against another king without first sitting down with his counselors to discuss whether his army of 10,000 could defeat the 20,000 soldiers marching against him?And if he can’t, he will send a delegation to discuss terms of peace while the enemy is still far away.So you cannot become my disciple without giving up everything you own.

Then Jesus said,“ I chose the twelve of you, but one is a devil.”
