From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him.

But My righteous one will live by faith; and if he draws back, I have no pleasure in him.

for Demas has deserted me, because he loved this present world, and has gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed Him,“ If you continue in My word, you really are My disciples.

This you know: All those in Asia have turned away from me, including Phygelus and Hermogenes.

When the young man heard that command, he went away grieving, because he had many possessions.

For if, having escaped the world’s impurity through the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in these things and defeated, the last state is worse for them than the first.For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy command delivered to them.It has happened to them according to the true proverb: A dog returns to its own vomit, and,“ a sow, after washing itself, wallows in the mud.”

But there are some among you who don’t believe.”( For Jesus knew from the beginning those who would not believe and the one who would betray Him.)

For as Jonah was in the belly of the huge fish three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth three days and three nights.The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at Jonah’s proclamation; and look— something greater than Jonah is here!The queen of the south will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and look— something greater than Solomon is here!“ When an unclean spirit comes out of a man, it roams through waterless places looking for rest but doesn’t find any.Then it says,‘ I’ll go back to my house that I came from.’ And returning, it finds the house vacant, swept, and put in order.Then off it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and settle down there. As a result, that man’s last condition is worse than the first. That’s how it will also be with this evil generation.”

And the one sown on rocky ground— this is one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy.Yet he has no root in himself, but is short-lived. When pressure or persecution comes because of the word, immediately he stumbles.

and those who turn back from following the Lord, who do not seek the Lord or inquire of Him.

A very large crowd spread their robes on the road; others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road.Then the crowds who went ahead of Him and those who followed kept shouting: Hosanna to the Son of David! He who comes in the name of the Lord is the blessed One! Hosanna in the highest heaven!When He entered Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken, saying,“ Who is this?”And the crowds kept saying,“ This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee!”

The chief priests and the elders, however, persuaded the crowds to ask for Barabbas and to execute Jesus.The governor asked them,“ Which of the two do you want me to release for you?”“ Barabbas!” they answered.Pilate asked them,“ What should I do then with Jesus, who is called Messiah?” They all answered,“ Crucify Him!”Then he said,“ Why? What has He done wrong?” But they kept shouting,“ Crucify Him!” all the more.When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that a riot was starting instead, he took some water, washed his hands in front of the crowd, and said,“ I am innocent of this man’s blood. See to it yourselves!”All the people answered,“ His blood be on us and on our children!”
