At this the Jews there began to grumble about him because he said,“ I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

Then the Jews there began to complain about Jesus. That was because he said,“ I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

Then the people began to murmur in disagreement because he had said,“ I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

Among the crowds there was widespread whispering about him. Some said,“ He is a good man.” Others replied,“ No, he deceives the people.” (niv)

But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered,“ This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” (niv)

From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him. (niv)

On hearing it, many of his disciples said,“ This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?” (niv)

These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage. (niv)

All the people saw this and began to mutter,“ He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” (niv)

And do not grumble, as some of them did— and were killed by the destroying angel. (niv)
