For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do my own will.

予之所以降自天上者、非欲行己之志、乃欲行遣予者之志；

For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.

I have not come down from heaven to do what I want to do. I have come to do what the one who sent me wants me to do.

I can do nothing on my own. I judge as God tells me. Therefore, my judgment is just, because I carry out the will of the one who sent me, not my own will.

Then Jesus explained:“ My nourishment comes from doing the will of God, who sent me, and from finishing his work.

No one has ever gone to heaven and returned. But the Son of Man has come down from heaven.

But it was the Lord’s good plan to crush him and cause him grief. Yet when his life is made an offering for sin, he will have many descendants. He will enjoy a long life, and the Lord’s good plan will prosper in his hands.

Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.

“ He has come from above and is greater than anyone else. We are of the earth, and we speak of earthly things, but he has come from heaven and is greater than anyone else.

The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

Notice that it says“ he ascended.” This clearly means that Christ also descended to our lowly world.

He went on a little farther and bowed with his face to the ground, praying,“ My Father! If it is possible, let this cup of suffering be taken away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”Then he returned to the disciples and found them asleep. He said to Peter,“ Couldn’t you watch with me even one hour?Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation. For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak!”Then Jesus left them a second time and prayed,“ My Father! If this cup cannot be taken away unless I drink it, your will be done.”

Even though Jesus was God’s Son, he learned obedience from the things he suffered.

For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

For even Christ didn’t live to please himself. As the Scriptures say,“ The insults of those who insult you, O God, have fallen on me.”

Then I said,‘ Look, I have come to do your will, O God— as is written about me in the Scriptures.’”First, Christ said,“ You did not want animal sacrifices or sin offerings or burnt offerings or other offerings for sin, nor were you pleased with them”( though they are required by the law of Moses).Then he said,“ Look, I have come to do your will.” He cancels the first covenant in order to put the second into effect.

Then I said,“ Look, I have come. As is written about me in the Scriptures:I take joy in doing your will, my God, for your instructions are written on my heart.”
