I have not come down from heaven to do what I want to do. I have come to do what the one who sent me wants me to do.

予之所以降自天上者、非欲行己之志、乃欲行遣予者之志；

For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.

I can do nothing by myself. I judge only as I hear. And my judging is fair. I do not try to please myself. I try to please the one who sent me.

Jesus said,“ My food is to do what my Father sent me to do. My food is to finish his work.

No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven. He is the Son of Man.

The Lord says,“ It was my plan to crush him and cause him to suffer. I made his life an offering to pay for sin. But he will see all his children after him. In fact, he will continue to live. My plan will be brought about through him.

Instead, he made himself nothing. He did this by taking on the nature of a servant. He was made just like human beings.He appeared as a man. He was humble and obeyed God completely. He did this even though it led to his death. Even worse, he died on a cross!

“ The one who comes from above is above everything. The one who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks like someone from the earth. The one who comes from heaven is above everything.

The bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven. He gives life to the world.”

What does“ he went up” mean? It can only mean that he also came down to the lower, earthly places.

He went a little farther. Then he fell with his face to the ground. He prayed,“ My Father, if it is possible, take this cup of suffering away from me. But let what you want be done, not what I want.”Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping.“ Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.“ Watch and pray. Then you won’t fall into sin when you are tempted. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”Jesus went away a second time. He prayed,“ My Father, is it possible for this cup to be taken away? But if I must drink it, may what you want be done.”

Jesus was God’s Son. But by suffering he learned what it means to obey.

Be like the Son of Man. He did not come to be served. Instead, he came to serve others. He came to give his life as the price for setting many people free.”

Even Christ did not please himself. It is written,“ The bad things people have said about you have been aimed at me also.”( Psalm 69:9)

Then I said,‘ Here I am. It is written about me in the book. I have come to do what you want, my God.’ ”( Psalm 40:6–8)First Christ said,“ You didn’t want sacrifices and offerings. You didn’t want burnt offerings and sin offerings. You weren’t pleased with them.” He said this even though they were offered in keeping with the law.Then he said,“ Here I am. I have come to do what you want.” He did away with the shadow of the good things that were coming. He did it to put in place the good things themselves.

Then I said,“ Here I am. It is written about me in the book.My God, I have come to do what you want. Your law is in my heart.”
