Then they asked him,“ What does God want from us? What works does he want us to do?”

众人问他说：“我们当行什么才算做神的工呢？”

于是他们问他：“我们该做什么才算是做上帝的工作呢？”

于是他们问他：“我们该做什么才算是做神的工作呢？”

众人问祂：“我们要怎样做，才算是做上帝的工作呢？”

众人又问他：“我们应该作什么，才算是作神的工作呢？”

他们问：“我们应该做什么，才算做神的工作呢？”

眾人問他說：「我們當行甚麼才算做神的工呢？」

於是他們問他：「我們該做甚麼才算是做上帝的工作呢？」

於是他們問他：「我們該做甚麼才算是做神的工作呢？」

眾人問祂：「我們要怎樣做，才算是做上帝的工作呢？」

眾人又問他：“我們應該作甚麼，才算是作神的工作呢？”

於是他們對耶穌說：『我們應當行甚麼、來作上帝的工呢？』

他們問：「我們應該做什麼，才算做神的工作呢？」

眾曰、我儕當何為以作上帝之工乎、

眾曰我儕當何為、以稱上帝之事乎、

眾曰、我當何為、以行天主之事乎、

眾問曰：『如之何始可務天主之務？』

Then they asked him,“ What must we do to do the works God requires?”

Then they said to him,“ What must we do, to be doing the works of God?”

They replied,“ We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”

“ What can we do to perform the works of God?” they asked.

Therefore they said to Him,“ What are we to do, so that we may accomplish the works of God?”

Then they said to Him,“ What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?”

They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works of God?

“ What can we do to perform the works of God?” they asked.

Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

So then they said to him,“ What must we do to accomplish the deeds God requires?”

They said therefore to him,“ What must we do, that we may work the works of God?”

Go near and listen to everything the Lord our God says. Then tell us what he tells you. We will listen and obey.”

Just then, a man came up to Jesus. He asked,“ Teacher, what good thing must I do to receive eternal life?”

Now get up and go into the city. There you will be told what you must do.”

Then he brought them out. He asked,“ Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

You made a big mistake when you asked me to pray to the Lord your God. You said,‘ Pray to the Lord our God for us. Tell us everything he says. We’ll do it.’

So pray to the Lord your God. Pray that he’ll tell us where we should go. Pray that he’ll tell us what we should do.”“ I’ve heard you,” Jeremiah the prophet replied.“ I’ll certainly pray to the Lord your God. I’ll do what you have asked me to do. In fact, I’ll tell you everything the Lord says. I won’t keep anything back from you.”Then they said to Jeremiah,“ We’ll do everything the Lord your God sends you to tell us to do. If we don’t, may he be a true and faithful witness against us.It doesn’t matter whether what you say is in our favor or not. We’re asking you to pray to the Lord our God. And we’ll obey him. Things will go well with us. That’s because we will obey the Lord our God.”

One day an authority on the law stood up to test Jesus.“ Teacher,” he asked,“ what must I do to receive eternal life?”

Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams? Will he take delight in 10,000 rivers of olive oil? Should we offer our oldest sons for the wrong things we’ve done? Should we sacrifice our own children to pay for our sins?”The Lord has shown you what is good. He has told you what he requires of you. You must act with justice. You must love to show mercy. And you must be humble as you live in the sight of your God.

When the people heard this, it had a deep effect on them. They said to Peter and the other apostles,“ Brothers, what should we do?”
