Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

They were terrified,but he called out to them,“ Don’t be afraid. I am here!”Then they were eager to let him in the boat, and immediately they arrived at their destination!

Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and head across the lake to Bethsaida, while he sent the people home.After telling everyone good bye, he went up into the hills by himself to pray.Late that night, the disciples were in their boat in the middle of the lake, and Jesus was alone on land.He saw that they were in serious trouble, rowing hard and struggling against the wind and waves. About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water. He intended to go past them,but when they saw him walking on the water, they cried out in terror, thinking he was a ghost.They were all terrified when they saw him. But Jesus spoke to them at once.“ Don’t be afraid,” he said.“ Take courage! I am here!”Then he climbed into the boat, and the wind stopped. They were totally amazed,for they still didn’t understand the significance of the miracle of the loaves. Their hearts were too hard to take it in.

and Jesus’ brothers said to him,“ Leave here and go to Judea, where your followers can see your miracles!You can’t become famous if you hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, show yourself to the world!”

Immediately after this, Jesus insisted that his disciples get back into the boat and cross to the other side of the lake, while he sent the people home.After sending them home, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. Night fell while he was there alone.Meanwhile, the disciples were in trouble far away from land, for a strong wind had risen, and they were fighting heavy waves.About three o’clock in the morning Jesus came toward them, walking on the water.When the disciples saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. In their fear, they cried out,“ It’s a ghost!”But Jesus spoke to them at once.“ Don’t be afraid,” he said.“ Take courage. I am here!”Then Peter called to him,“ Lord, if it’s really you, tell me to come to you, walking on the water.”“ Yes, come,” Jesus said. So Peter went over the side of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus.But when he saw the strong wind and the waves, he was terrified and began to sink.“ Save me, Lord!” he shouted.Jesus immediately reached out and grabbed him.“ You have so little faith,” Jesus said.“ Why did you doubt me?”When they climbed back into the boat, the wind stopped.Then the disciples worshiped him.“ You really are the Son of God!” they exclaimed.

Jesus was in the center of the procession, and the people all around him were shouting,“ Praise God! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord!

“ Blessings on the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in highest heaven!”

The next day, the news that Jesus was on the way to Jerusalem swept through the city. A large crowd of Passover visitorstook palm branches and went down the road to meet him. They shouted,“ Praise God! Blessings on the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hail to the King of Israel!”Jesus found a young donkey and rode on it, fulfilling the prophecy that said:“ Don’t be afraid, people of Jerusalem. Look, your King is coming, riding on a donkey’s colt.”

Then Jesus climbed a hill and sat down with his disciples around him.

But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people.No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart.

Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable.
